In the first leg of the Europa League semifinals against six-time winner Sevilla on Thursday, substitute Federico Gatti scored in the last seconds to give Juventus a 1-1 draw.

In Turin's seventh minute of extra time, Gatti scored an equalizer to keep the Italian team's dreams of finally winning a European championship alive.

Three times, most recently in 1993, Juventus won the tournament when it was known as the UEFA Cup. To have a chance to win a first European championship since winning the Champions League in 1996, the club will need to win the second leg next week.

Sevilla has won the trophy six times, and the Spanish team once again showed that it can challenge for the crown.

Sevilla defeated Manchester United in the quarterfinals with a goal from Youssef En-Nesyri in the 26th minute to cap a deadly counterattack. The goal was the forward's 18th across all leagues.

When Lucas Ocampos, who had numerous shots on goal, had to be replaced in the 34th minute due to injury, the visitors suffered a blow.

Another excellent opportunity fell to Sevilla, but goalkeeper Wojciech Szczsny deflected Ivan Rakiti's effort over the crossbar.

The visitors scored first despite Juventus applying considerable pressure earlier thanks to Angel Di Mara.

In this tournament, Sevilla has never lost a semifinal.

Roma defeated Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in the first leg of their semifinal, maintaining their chances of winning back-to-back European championships.

The third-tier Europa Conference League's maiden season was won by José Mourinho's squad the previous year.

Leverkusen has improved under coach Xabi Alonso, a former Real Madrid player under Mourinho, but Roma triumphed at Stadio Olimpico.

In the 63rd minute, Edoardo Bove scored the winning goal. After goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky stopped striker Tammy Abraham's original effort, the 20-year-old midfielder scored his first European goal with a left-footed rebound.

Roger Ibaez's close-range header in the first half was stopped by Hradecky, keeping the visitors in the match.

In a golden opportunity to equalize, Jeremie Frimpong was unable to take advantage of Roma goalkeeper Rui Patrcio's error.

CONFERENCE LEAGUE OF EUROPE

West Ham rallied in the second half to defeat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 at London Stadium behind goals from Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio.

Before Antonio scored from close range, Benrahma converted from the penalty spot to cut the Dutch team's advantage in half.

Four minutes before halftime, Tijjani Reijnders scored a goal from beyond the box to give the visitors the lead.

At this point, it was a rare opportunity for the Dutch.

Since the Hammers won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965, they have been searching for a European trophy.

Basel stunned Fiorentina 2-1 in Florence after coming back from a goal down thanks to a late strike from Zeki Amdouni. In the 71st minute, Andy Diouf had scored an equalizer.

At Stadio Artemio Franchi, Fiorentina continued to assault but Basel resisted until Arthur Cabral headed in the game's first goal for the hosts in the 25th minute. The striker's seventh goal gave him the competition's most goals, earning him the leading scorer.
